
It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Harry L.
Dean at the Drew Nursing Home on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the age of
94. He was the son of the late Harry and Betty (Ferguson) Dean.
Survived by his wife, Norma (Crosby) Dean; sons,
Charles (Francine), Newburne, NS, and Harry Jr., Calgary. Predeceased
by his brother Maurice Dean and a sister Beatrice Harrington from
Halifax, and several nieces and nephews.
Harry
was educated at the old Halifax County Academy and then at the
Maritime Academy of Music and Dalhousie University,
His Father was a professor of music at Dalhousie and Harry
studied under him, both organ and piano. He gained distinction at
organ playing but was unable to attend Royal College of Music in
London because of the War.
He spent 5 years of
war service in the RCAF. He also spent 5 years employed with Johnson
Smith & Co. Chartered Accountants before moving to Kentville,
NS, where he was chief Accountant and Treasurer for the United Fruit
Co. of NS Ltd. While there Harry was also organist of St. Paul and St.
Stephen for 4 1/2 years. In 1957 he went to Enterprise Foundry Co. in
Sackville working for 26 years as Comptroller and later Vice President
of Finance.
Volunteer work included Deputy
Mayor of Kentville’s Town Council and School-Board for 3
years, and Returning Officer for the 1980 and 1984 NB Provincial
Elections.
He was a passionate reader and a
classical music aficionado. He loved nature and the outdoors and made
many visits to his cottage at Scott's Bay, NS. He was a dog fancier.
In his retirement, he and Norma enjoyed trips to relatives in England,
the Canadian west and visits with their son in Calgary.
He will be sorely missed by his family, neighbours
and friends.
At the request of the deceased
there will be a private graveside service at a later date.
His family would like to express their appreciation
to the staff of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville for the excellent
care Harry received during his residency.

Foundation or a charity of your choice.
