On June 4, 2008, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Stella R. Smith,
age 87, of Port Elgin, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her
family.
Born in Bayside, she was a daughter of the late Mariner and Hattie (Polley) Allen.
As a young woman, Stella worked as a cook in the lumber camps. She loved to knit, garden and cook and also worked in a fish packing plant and with mcCain Foods.
A devoted mother, Stella will be sadly missed by 4 sons, Oakley Allen (Lorna), Moncton, Wayne (Connie), Port Elgin, Murray (Shirley), Florenceville, and Brian (Kathy), Florenceville; a daughter, Norma (Alan Moore) McKinley, Port Elgin, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a brother Aubrey (Lola), Port Elgin, and a sister Dolly (Alton) Trenholm, Moncton. She was predeceased by her husband Ormond.
Stella's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Jones Funeral Home, 3 W. Main Street, Port Elgin, from where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 2 pm, Rev. Dr. John Allison officiating. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin. Stella's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A reception will be held following the funeral service on Saturday.
