In Loving Memory of Glenna Mae Pauley : June 12, 1937 - July 4, 2026
With great sadness, our family would like to announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grammy, Glenna Mae (Shields) Pauley, wife of the late Dana Purdy Pauley, who passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on July 4th, 2026. Surrounded by family, she went home to be with her Heavenly Father at the age of 89.
Born June 12, 1937 in Orlando, Braxton County, West Virginia, USA, she was the daughter of Hoye and Matilda (Shaver) Shields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 10 siblings: brothers Roy, Clyde, Glen, Grant "Jimmie", Bill, Don, Melvin and John Shields, as well as sisters Viola Marie "Nancy" Ruby and Mary Shields.
At a very young age, Glenna was swept off her feet by a charming man she met while working in an office. Her and Dana got married in Liberty, Indiana on September 28, 1957, a union that lasted almost 68 years. During their time together, they spent almost 27 years serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force while also raising their family. Upon Dana’s retirement from the military, they proceeded to open a Singer Sewing Machine and Central Vacuum franchise, a business they operated together for a period of approximately 17 years. Glenna was a natural at providing customer service, as people always remembered her soft-spoken demeanor and genuine smile.
A deeply loved sister, mother and grandmother, Glenna will be lovingly remembered for how much she cherished her entire family and how much she appreciated any time spent together. One place she liked to do so, especially in the summer, was at their camp where she could often be found sitting on the veranda to enjoy a breeze while watching Dana fish. During her leisure time she also enjoyed listening to old country music or watching game shows on television. Like Dana, however, she was not one to be idle too long and together they walked many, many miles daily over the years in the name of good health.
A woman of integrity with a kind heart and a ready smile, she possessed a quiet faith. Humble in spirit, she let her actions speak louder than words and was always ready to help others in need whenever she could. Prior to their decline in health, her and Dana attended the Victory Baptist church in South Esk, NB where they enjoyed the fellowship of other believers.
Glenna is survived by her children: Bruce Pauley (Ellen) of Miramichi, NB; Ann MacTavish (Hugh) of Lyttleton, NB; and four grandchildren: Alyssa MacTavish of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Evan MacTavish of Fredericton, NB; Ryan and Dylan Pauley of Miramichi, NB. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in the United States.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port Elgin, NB (506)364-1300. As per Glenna’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Port Elgin, NB.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to a local food bank or a memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook page.
