It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Mitton, who passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on June 18, 2026 at the age of 73.
Gary was the beloved son of Raymond Basil and Hazel Grace aka "Sue" Mitton (Bembridge).
Gary spent much of his life working as a truck driver, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he had a deep love for horses and took great pride in caring for them. They were a source of joy throughout his life. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, Spook, who brought him comfort and companionship.
During the last year and a half of his life, Gary resided at the Drew Nursing Home, where he formed a close friendship with his best friend, Dennis. Together they shared countless stories, laughs, and memories. Some of their happiest moments were spent enjoying takeout treats brought by Nicole, escaping nursing home meals for something special and spending time together outdoors.
Gary will be remembered for his love that he had for his family, his dedication to his work, his passion for horses, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life; including the close bond that he had with his employer but good friend, Mel. Thank you for everything that you have done for him while he was at the Drew and being a good friend to him over the years. He cherished your friendship.
Gary's fondest memory was visiting his son Tanar and grandson Connor in British Columbia. There they fished, spent time together and then he took a road trip back home with his grandson. He talked about that trip often and how much he enjoyed it.
Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Gary will be lovingly remembered by his son, Tanar Mitton (Jeneen); his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Alanna, and Brooklynn; his sister, Angie; brothers, Daryll (Ann) and Rod (Dori); his daughter in law Nicole, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, as well as his children, Tara Mitton, Ryan "Boone" Mitton also his brothers Lorne (Lynn) Mitton and Ken Mitton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A graveside service will be held on August 5, 2026 at 2 pm at the Upper Fairfield Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Drew Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Gary during his time there. A huge thank you to Donna for everything that you have done for him, and to the many others whom he adored. Also to the Moncton Hospital for making him comfortable for his last few days.
