It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Vera Blanche Spence, age 93,
of Murray Corner, NB. Vera passed away after a very brief
illness at the Moncton Hospital on Friday, June 12,
2026.
Born in Murray Corner, she was a
daughter of the late Thomas and Hester (Stright)
Briggs.
Vera lived life to the
fullest. She never missed an opportunity to go
out. She was a member of the Women's Institute, the First
United Church in Murray Corner, as well as the UCW. She was
a member of the Beach Comber's Square Dancers. She traveled
across Canada and the United States, enjoying countless bus
tours. She quilted many a quilt for friends and family over
the years. She loved the Nursing Homes Without Walls events;
Teas, Lunches, and more. She was a great genealogist,
investigating and learning about her family lineage. Her
family was always at the top of her mind. She loved family
gatherings and spending time with everyone.
Vera will be dearly missed by her sons
Lipton (Carol) and Blair (Sally), both of Murray Corner;
grandchildren, Carolyn, Richard, Janice, Jordan and Preston; great
grandchildren, Asha, Izzy, Tristan, Katelyn, Everett, Isabella, Averi
and Harrison as well as step grandchildren Jessica, Sadie, and Hunter;
sister Frances (Frank) Boyd, Murray Corner, NB; many beloved nieces
and nephews as well as countless close friends.
She was predeceased by her husband
Horace Spence; daughter Shirley Spence; daughter in law Joyce Spence;
granddaughter Tracy Spence; brothers Clarence and Basil; sisters Zora
Simpson and Thelma Trenholm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and Sackville,
NB (506-364-1300). Visiting hours will be
held from the Port Elgin location from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed
immediately by her funeral at 2 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Verna
Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayfield
Cemetery.
