It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jean Cynthia Lewis, age 89, a long time resident of Cape Tormentine, NB. Jean passed away peacefully at the Moncton City Hospital on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Born in Bayfield, NB, Jean and her late brothers Carl, Boyd, and Wayne (infant) were raised in Bayfield by their parents, the late Garnet and Anna (MacDonald) Leeworthy.
Jean moved to Moncton in 1952 and attended Moncton High School and Central United Church, where she met her first husband Doug Lewis, with whom she had two children David and Brenda.
In 1972 Jean settled in Cape Tormentine with her life partner Donald Allen who passed in 2024. The couple were the owner/operators of the Beacon Light Restaurant and Gas Bar until their retirement in 1997. Whether it was at the Beacon Light, or at her home just up the road, one would depart with a belly full of delicious home cooking. Jean was a friend to many in the community and loved to entertain.
In late 2024 Jean moved to Havenwood Seniors Home in Moncton where she made many new friends.
Jean is survived by her children David (Sheila) Lewis, Brenda (Luis) Moreno, Dan (Rina) Allen, James (Tammy) Allen, Vernon (Jocelyn) Allen; grandchildren Matthew, Derek, Erica, Sarah, Brett, Jessica, Nicole; four great grandchildren; one sister in law Elizabeth (Boyd) Leeworthy and several nieces and nephews. Jean will also be remembered fondly by her cousin who was like a sister, Donna (Cadman) Deware
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port Elgin, NB. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held in the Bayfield Cemetery on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow at the Cape Tormentine Legion from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.
