It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis Albert Clarke, 88, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 10, 2026.  Lew was born in Stillwater, MN, January 22, 1938, the son of the late L. Norton and Helen (Johnson) Clarke.

Lew joined the Marine Corps immediately following graduation from High School and married Barb on July 19, 1957.  He attended the University of Minnesota before entering the book business and worked his way across the country in Chicago, Philadelphia and Upstate New York.  Together, they moved to Sackville in 1968 where he ran the Mount Allison Bookstore until his retirement.

Lew was active with the Canadian Booksellers Association, as well as with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and was well known as "Saucy", the Waterfowl Celebration duck mascot.

Following retirement, Lew bought and sold books for a used book company and enjoyed his hobby of making beautiful scroll saw Christmas ornaments.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Barbara (nee Teeters); his children, Lance (Maggie) and Laurie, as well as his grandchildren, Graham and Emily and step-grandson, Dylan, in addition to many nieces and nephews in Utah.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sally Hopkinson, and his brother-in-law, Richard Teeters.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB. A Celebration of Lew's Life will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 2 pm.

For those who wish to do so, donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sackville, the Moncton SPCA, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook Page.
