It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Lowell Lester Thomas, age 82, of Port Elgin, NB.  Lowell passed away at the Moncton City Hospital on Monday, February 23, 2026.

Born in Port Elgin, NB, he was a son of the late Lester and Edith (Walton) (Kirby) Thomas.

Lowell was raised in Cape Spear and attended the Cape Spear Grade School and the Port Elgin Regional School. Following graduation Lowell made his mark in the Atlantic Lobster industry. Over the course of his career he managed the Lobster division for HB Nickerson and ran lobster pounds in Cocagne NB and on Grand Manan Island buying lobsters throughout the Atlantic provinces and supplying lobsters to far away markets in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Lowell eventually settled in Grand Manan and retired to Port Elgin in 2014. Lowell was a proud member of the United Church in Port Elgin.

Lowell will be dearly missed by his wife Mary Ann of Port Elgin; nephew Wayne (Patty) Thomas, Pictou, NS, Jerry (Louise) Thomas, Ottawa; niece Deborah (Robin) Craig, Moncton.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two infant sons Leon Lester and John Edward;  brother Neil (June) Thomas; sister Isabel and nephew Paul Thorne.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville and Port Elgin, NB (506-364-1300).  A graveside service will be held in the Fernwood Cemetery in the Spring.

Lowell's family would like to send special thanks to the orthopedic staff on the 6th floor of the Moncton City Hospital. You helped us through a very difficult time.
