Reverend Doctor Malcolm
Colin Grant (82), of Sackville, New Brunswick, left
this mortal world and embarked on his next grand quest for knowledge
on July 25th, 2024 at the Drew Nursing Home.
Malcolm, more commonly known as Colin,
was born to David and Ida Grant, on April 12th, 1942, in Edwardsville,
Cape Breton.
He was a life-long learner who attended
Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and graduated in
1962 with his Bachelor’s Degree, before going on to complete
his Masters at Pine Hill Divinity College in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and
rounding out his formal institutional education at Edinburgh
University in Edinburgh, Scotland where he obtained his Doctorate.
More important to Colin than his
academic achievement was finding the love of his life in Edinburgh
where a lifelong romance began with Sheina (Crawford) Grant who became
his wife in 1970. 54 years of marriage saw Colin practice
his ministry for the United Church in multiple churches in Goshen,
Nova Scotia before returning to Mount Allison in the early
1970’s where he was a professor, and also at times head of
the Religious Studies Department until his eventual retirement in
2007.
In retirement, Colin and Sheina traveled
the world and sought out adventures together in Scotland, England,
France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Croatia, the Caribbean, Cuba, Alaska,
Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and also a few automobile stores in
search of parts for the 1928 Whippet that Colin affectionately and
masterfully restored to its initial glory.
In addition to constantly looking to
acquire knowledge and experiences, Colin was Chairman of the Drew
Nursing Home, a volunteer at Dorchester Penitentiary helping those who
were seeking to return on a better path, and a beacon of light to all
who knew him.
Colin fought his battle against dementia
in the later part of his life courageously with his love Sheina by his
side. While the disease robbed him of who he truly was, his
positive inner spirit shined through as he never lost his sense of
humour and that remained right up until his sudden
passing.
Colin’s loving spirit and
legacy is carried on by his wife, Sheina; their two sons, Scott and
Neil, his daughters-in-law Jennifer and Maeghan; his brother, Alister
(partner Debbie); and his cherished grandchildren Malcolm, Ainsley,
Nicholas, Brenna, and Archer.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Funeral Home,
Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A time of public visitation
will take place at the funeral home on Monday, July 29 from 6 to 8
PM. His funeral service will follow on Tuesday, July 30,
2024 at 2 pm. Interment will take place at the Four Corners
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that
a donation be made in Colin’s name to the Drew Nursing Home
for the wonderfully caring staff who made his final days so filled
with warmth and affection.
