It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Wayne Hicks, 61, of Sackville, NB, at his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 after a lengthy illness.  Wayne was born on January 8, 1963, a son of Marilyn (Sterling)(Hicks) Stokes and the late Norman Carl Hicks of Midgic, NB.

Wayne faced many challenges in his life, the last being a diagnosis of Fahr's disease, and although he lost the ability to do many of the things he once took for granted, he never complained and didn't give up, even on the hardest of days.

Wayne was a kind and humble man. He loved his family and worked hard to provide for them while still making sure he had time to spend with his four boys. He was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife, Kim. He was a proud papa to his six grandchildren. He had a close bond with his mother-in-law, Grace, who loved him as though he were her son. Wayne always said that he could never tell a mother-in-law joke, and he meant it.

Wayne worked as an auto mechanic for many years. He was a fan of country music, especially Johnny Cash, and bluegrass music. Before his illness he also enjoyed playing guitar, biking, snowshoeing, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Kim, Wayne is survived by his sons, Matthew (Maxine), Brandon (Lee), Nathan (Laura), and Lucas (Sorcha); his grandchildren, Malik, Raya, Sadie, Beatrix, Hudson, and Fern; his mother and stepfather, Marilyn and John Stokes; his brothers, Donnie (Angela), Maurice (Tracey), and Barry; his sister, Diane (Murray); and their families, as well as many other family members and friends.

Wayne was predeceased by his father, Norman Carl Hicks; his paternal grandparents, Titus and Revolia (Phinney) Hicks; his maternal grandmother, Hilda Sterling; and his mother-in-law, Grace (Hoeg) Lee.

Special thanks to Dr. Veronique Robichaud, whose compassionate care meant so much to us during Wayne's illness ; to Jen for her understanding when calling or visiting the office; to Dr. Lisa Searle, Palliative Care, for her guidance; to everyone from Extra Mural for the unwavering support provided to us; and to Wayne's, best buddy, Wayne Hicks for his visits and kindness. Wayne appreciated each and everyone of you.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300).  In keeping with Wayne's wishes, cremation has taken place. A time of remembrance will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 2-4 pm. Burial will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Wayne may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook Page.

As Wayne's wife, I had the privilege of sharing a life with this incredible man, and the void left by his death will be impossible to fill. Wayne loved me with every beat of his heart, and I will continue to love him with every beat of mine.

"I want to stroll over Heaven with you some glad day

When all our troubles and heartaches are vanished away

Then we'll enjoy the beauty where all things are new

I want to stroll over Heaven with you"
