It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Eva T Walton (Peacock) age 92 of Murray Corner, NB.  Eva passed away at Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin, NB Monday, March 25, 2024.

Born in Murray Corner, Eva was the daughter of the late Stephen Peacock and Mabel (Trueman) Peacock.

Eva was in the first graduating class from Port Elgin’s Regional Memorial School in 1949.  She continued to Teachers’ College in Fredericton graduating in 1951.  Eva taught locally at Murray Road School, on Grand Manan Island and then back home to teach at RMS until retirement in 1984.  During Eva’s thirty-three-year teaching career, she left a lasting impression on generations of students, every one of whom has a story they could tell about Mrs. Walton.

Eva married Gerald in 1954 and they enjoyed life together for sixty years, snowmobiling, playing cards, dancing, and travelling across Canada. Eva proudly raised her girls in Murray Corner where she also spent many happy summers on the beach with her grandchildren.  Eva was actively involved in her community where among other contributions, for twenty-five years she organized the Terry Fox run, was a Senior Goodwill Ambassador for New Brunswick, and was on the committee that named the Confederation Bridge.  As a member of the First United Church, Murray Corner, Eva taught Sunday School and worked tirelessly at many a Church Supper.  Eva was the last surviving member of her immediate family – The Peacock Six.

She will be dearly missed by daughters Judy Walton and Jocelyn Connolly, three grandchildren Jennifer, Trevor (Sarah), Gregory (Trisha) and four great-grandchildren Alex, Olivia, Mackayla, Sydney, sisters-in-law Joyce Peacock, Lois Walton, Myrtle Walton, and many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends and neighbors.

Eva was predeceased by her husband Gerald, son-in-law Jim Connolly, brothers Robert, Joe, David, Henry, sister Grace, and brother-in-law, Keith.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and Sackville, NB.  Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Eva’s life will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 2:00 pm at First United Church, Murray Corner with visitation following in the Church basement.
