It is with sadness that we announce the
passing of Eva T Walton (Peacock) age 92
of Murray Corner, NB. Eva passed away at Westford Nursing
Home, Port Elgin, NB Monday, March 25, 2024.
Born in Murray Corner, Eva was the
daughter of the late Stephen Peacock and Mabel (Trueman)
Peacock.
Eva was in the first graduating class
from Port Elgin’s Regional Memorial School in
1949. She continued to Teachers’ College in
Fredericton graduating in 1951. Eva taught locally at Murray
Road School, on Grand Manan Island and then back home to teach at RMS
until retirement in 1984. During Eva’s
thirty-three-year teaching career, she left a lasting impression on
generations of students, every one of whom has a story they could tell
about Mrs. Walton.
Eva married Gerald in 1954 and they
enjoyed life together for sixty years, snowmobiling, playing cards,
dancing, and travelling across Canada. Eva proudly raised her girls in
Murray Corner where she also spent many happy summers on the beach
with her grandchildren. Eva was actively involved in her
community where among other contributions, for twenty-five years she
organized the Terry Fox run, was a Senior Goodwill Ambassador for New
Brunswick, and was on the committee that named the Confederation
Bridge. As a member of the First United Church, Murray
Corner, Eva taught Sunday School and worked tirelessly at many a
Church Supper. Eva was the last surviving member of her
immediate family – The Peacock Six.
She will be dearly missed by daughters
Judy Walton and Jocelyn Connolly, three grandchildren Jennifer, Trevor
(Sarah), Gregory (Trisha) and four great-grandchildren Alex, Olivia,
Mackayla, Sydney, sisters-in-law Joyce Peacock, Lois Walton, Myrtle
Walton, and many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends and
neighbors.
Eva was predeceased by her husband
Gerald, son-in-law Jim Connolly, brothers Robert, Joe, David, Henry,
sister Grace, and brother-in-law, Keith.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted
to the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and
Sackville, NB. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration
of Eva’s life will be held Tuesday, April 2, at
2:00 pm at First United Church, Murray Corner with visitation
following in the Church basement.

choice.
