It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald William Allen, 90, of Port Elgin and formerly of Cape Tormentine NB, at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, February 22, 2024.  Born in Cape Tormentine, Don was a son of the late Milton and Wilda (Reid) Allen.

Don was well known in Cape Tormentine area as the owner of the Beacon Light Restaurant and Gas Bar with his life partner, Jean.  He worked hard and played hard.  Any chance he could, Don would sneak away to go hunting at the camp or fishing off the wharf.  Everyone believed the mackerel would only show up once Don was in his favourite spot on the wharf.  He was a natural storyteller and loved to share his adventures with anyone who would listen.  After his retirement, Don continued to sell bait, smoke fish, make home brew, and tell stories from his garage (inner sanctum).

Don will be dearly missed by his life partner of 54 years, Jean Lewis, Cape Tormentine; his children, Dan (Rina), Moncton, Dave (Sheila) Lewis, Moncton, Brenda (Luis) Moreno, Riverview, James (Tammy), Malden, and Vernon (Jocelyn), Bass River; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Lisa), Derek (Cara), Erica (James), Sara (Yves), Brett (Kaydi), Jessica (James), and Nicole (Anthony); three great grandchildren, Zach, Grace, and Emmett, as well as several nieces nephews.

Don was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Laurie in 2022.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Homes, Sackville and Port Elgin, NB (506-364-1300).  A graveside service will take place in the Bayfield Cemetery at a later date, to be announced.

Donations in Don's memory may be sent to the Westford Nursing Home Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook page.
