With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra Estelle Fox, age 81, of Sackville.  Sandy passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Drew Nursing Home.

Sandy was born in Malagash, NS to Sanford and Hazel (Murray) Latta. She was the eldest of 4 children, the other siblings being boys, may explain her lifelong love of quiet.

Sandy pursued her education at Nova Scotia Teachers College and later obtained an advanced teaching certificate from Mount Allison University.  She held a profound respect for the field of education and for institutions of higher education and impacted the lives of many through her roles as a teacher, coach, and mother.  As a guiding philosophy, Sandy never expected you to be the best, but always expected that each person do their best.

An enthusiastic bridge player, Sandy's passions in life also included traveling and animals.  Having dedicated most of her working life to Amherst, she retired after thirty years of teaching middle school, embracing her retirement with leisurely games of bridge, brisk walks, and traveling.  She was both gregarious and reserved; to understand Sandy is to know that she lived her whole life next to water even though she was deathly afraid of it.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Chris Fox (Matteo Arena), of Wisconsin, USA; son, Jason Fox; brothers Lee (Karen) and Gerald (Heather) of Halifax, NS, and Daniel (Karen) of Lake Echo, NS; as well as her grandchildren, Nicolas and Giulia. In her later years, Sandy found extended companionship with John Beasy of Halifax, NS.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jack Fox.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300).  A Celebration of Life will take place from the funeral home on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2 pm, Rev. Carolyn Rushton officiating.  Interment to take place in the Malagash Mines Cemetery at a later date.

For those who wish to do so, and in honor of her love of Bridge and of teaching, donations may be made to the ACBL Educational Foundation

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook page.
