It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertil (Bert) Karl Blomquist, age 82, of Sackville, NB at the Drew Nursing Home on Friday, March 17, 2023.  

Bert was born and raised in Eskilstuna, Sweden, and left during his teenage years to travel and eventually move to Canada.  Bert lived in Toronto, Vancouver, Cape Breton, Ottawa, and Summerside, before settling in Sackville nine years ago.  Bert joined the Canadian Military at a young age and was an active member for many years, reaching officer level.  In his younger years, Bert enjoyed artistry and many sports including soccer and tennis, and loved going on road trips with his motorcycle.  Bert was an accountant and worked for both provincial and federal governments for many years.  He was a simple man with a very dry sense of humor, and he will be dearly missed.  

Bert leaves behind his loving wife of almost 25 years, Georgina (Gina) Blomquist of Sackville, his son, Karl (Tracey) Blomquist, his stepchildren, Karen (Matthew) Piercey and Andy (Rachel) Crosby, his grandsons, Jordan, Shane, and Devon Blomquist, his step-grandchildren, Cameron, Reid, and Isla Piercey and Èvie and Noélie Ariey-Crosby, and his half brother Hans-Egon Larsson, from Sweden. 

Bert was predeceased by his parents Astrid Johannsson and Sven Blomkvist, and his brother Sven-Åke Blomkvist, from Sweden.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff who took such great care of Bert during his short time at the Drew Nursing Home. 

Donations in memory of Bert may be made to the Drew Nursing Home.  

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300).  Honouring Bert's wishes, cremation has taken place and a small service will be held at a later date.
