It is with sadness that we announce the death of
George Herbert Fillmore, 92, of Port
Elgin and formerly of Baie Verte, NB, at the Westford Nursing Home on
Monday, January 9, 2023. Born in Baie Verte, George was a
son of the late Fred & Flora (Mercer) Fillmore.
George was a mechanic for 30 years with the NB Dept
of Transportation and District 14 School Board. He was a
hunter, fisherman, played hockey and was a good storyteller.
George also worked at farming and forestry. A high school
graduate he held 3 mechanics licenses for motor mechanics, bus and
truck mechanics and heavy equipment mechanics.
George will be sadly missed by his children, Shelley A E
(Don) Fillmore-Thurber, Dartmouth, NS and Sherry A E Fillmore (Butch
Slade), Kentville, NS, and grandson Grant RJ Thurber, Dartmouth,
NS. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley (Lois), his
sisters, Flora (Douglas) Annand, Lois Metro, and Hedy (Toper)
Fillmore, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Marilyn
and his siblings, Freddie Fillmore, Baxter Fillmore, Elizabeth Rogers,
Wilfred Fillmore, Joan Murray, Martha Hyslop, and Joy
Vardy.
George's remains have been entrusted into the care of the
Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and
Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A time of visitation will be
held at their Port Elgin location on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from
2pm until the time of the funeral service at 3pm. Interment
will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery in the
spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
or the St. James United Church in Baie Verte are
welcome.
