At the age of 70, my loving husband, Martinus "Marty" Hermanes Van Egmond has left this earth and on to start his glorious life in heaven.

Over the last three years he has battled a rare combination of ALS and Frontal Lobe Dementia, which is an inherited genetic condition.

We have been married for 49 years after meeting in high school. We lived in several cities including 4 years in Australia and traveled extensively. We have raised three children Trevor, Jamie and Derek. Life has provided many ups and downs over the years as I reflect back.

Marty was born into a Dutch family that had just immigrated from Holland after the war. They faced many challenges. Marty was a quiet man but loved to hear a good joke and tell one too. Marty was passionate about golf and hockey and the outdoors.

Marty had a full life as a CMA professional and worked for several large companies as a Systems Analyst.  He graduated from Mount Allison and was always proud to belong to the alumni.

Remaining Van Egmond Family include: Tony, Lorraine, Charlie and Arthur.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

The ALS Society of N.S. and N.B. have supplied several pieces of equipment on loan to us and this allowed Marty to remain comfortable and cared for. Any Donations to the ALS Society of N.S. and N.B. would be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the Doctors and Extra Mural Staff who treated us as family, meeting our every need. Stan Cassidy Rehab Centre monitored Marty closely and they were wonderful to us, during the challenges of ALS.

With the challenges facing the medical system, I cared for Marty at home for 3 years and, while we lived remotely we were fully supported by the medical system and I could not have asked for more care.

Rest in peace - my Marty.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and Sackville, NB (506-36-1300).  Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church in Port Elgin, NB on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 1 pm, Father Charles Broderick officiating.  Immediately following the funeral mass, all are invited back to Jones Funeral Home's Port Elgin Facility at 3 West Main St. for a time of fellowship and refreshment.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home Facebook Page.
