It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Elaine Smith, 82, is announcing her passing that occurred on August 4, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital with loving family by her side. Elaine was born in Central Hampstead, NB and was the oldest daughter of the late Wesley and Grace (Appleby) Slipp.

Besides being a loving wife and good and caring mother, Elaine was a schoolteacher for over 30 years, teaching in Havelock and Port Elgin, retiring in 1998. While teaching and raising a family, Elaine went back to school and obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees at Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB and shared her passion for learning with several generations of students over the years.

Community minded, Elaine was the Mayor of Port Elgin in the 1980s, a member of The Order Of The Eastern Star, Zetland Chapter, O.E.S. for 51 years. She was a Past Matron, and Past Grand Representative of Georgia, as well as a board member of the Moncton Hospital for 10 years. An accomplished seamstress and chef, Elaine took great pride in her home and family.

Elaine will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Beatrice (Steven) Daniel and Susan Muttenthaler, both of Yellowknife, NT; granddaughters Ilia and Arielle Daniel, Yellowknife and Joey Muttenthaler, Halifax; brothers John Slipp and Donald (Joan) Slipp, Central Hampstead, sister Pam (Rino) Godbout, Clairmont, AB; sister-in-law Annie Slipp, Central Hampstead; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relations across the country.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband R. Keith Smith, her granddaughter Karla E. Muttenthaler, and her brother George Slipp.

The family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Gillett, Dr. Mohamed, the nurses, and the staff of the Moncton Hospital for the kindness and care they extended to Elaine.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Homes, Sackville & Port Elgin, NB (506-364-1300).  A public visitation will be held at the Port Elgin location, 3 West Main Street, on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 2-4 pm with an Eastern Star Service at 2 pm.  Elaine will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Keith, at the Central Hampstead Rural Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to do so to make donations to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
