It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of James Ralph "Jim" Long, age 76, of Middle Sackville, NB.  Jim passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in the Moncton Hospital.

Born in Sackville, NB in 1945, he was a son of the late Ralph and Hazel (Estabrooks) Long.

Jim started out in the career of teaching, 2 years at South Bathurst, then 2 years at the Old Edith Cavell School in Moncton.  He then went to a 6 year stint with a sales Financial Group named IAC Ltd for a finance background.  From there he joined the Town of Sackville as Deputy Clerk then on to treasurer for a 16 year term.  He served as councilor for the town for 3 terms, the last half of the 3rd term as Mayor.  His final years of working life was with Moneris Solutions as their Property Manager, from 2002 to 2013.  Jim has always had a great interest in cars.  He belonged to the New Brunswick Antique Auto Club and the Atlantic Studebaker Club.  He also belonged to the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.  He volunteered with Crime Stoppers for 30 years, being the founding member of the Westmorland Chapter.

In addition to his wife Yvette of Sackville, he will be missed by step sons Peter (Angie) McIntyre, Edmonton, AB and Joseph McIntyre, Calgary, AB; step grandchildren Emily (Andrew Irvine) and Keegan McIntyre; step great grandchildren Jaxon and Layla; a very special daughter in law Angela (André) Melanson, Moncton;  brother John (Brenda) Long, Sackville; special friend Stuart Estabrooks; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300).  A graveside service in the Midgic Cemetery will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 10:30 am.  All are welcome to attend, masks are mandatory.
