Hugh John Wood, age 95, passed away peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

Born in Baie Verte, NB, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Murphy) Wood.

Hugh J. was number 7 of 12 siblings.  He took over the family farm following his father's passing; and was also in the lumbering business.  He loved his vegetable garden and enjoyed a good game of cards.  Hugh was a good neighbor to many and a loyal member of the Masonic Lodge #44.  He was a diehard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hugh is survived by his children, Terry (Susan), Eric (Joan), and Roxanne (Blake) Ward; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Hughie is also survived by sisters; Noreen, Lorna and Shirley and by many nieces and nephews.  

He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis (2006); brothers Basil, David, Lorne and sisters Dorothy Jean, Helen, Marie and Marjorie.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port Elgin, NB (506-364-1300).  Public visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home's Port Elgin facility, 3 West Main St. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 1 until 2 pm, followed immediately at 2 pm by his funeral service.  Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Hughie may be made to the St. James United Church, Baie Verte or the charity of your choice.
