It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Laurie Raleigh Smith, age 93, of Woodpoint.  Laurie passed away at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 with his wife by his side.

Born in Woodpoint, he was a son of the late Stephen and Vera (Ward) Smith.

He was a Veteran of WW II, serving in the reserve army before mustering to the regular army serving with Lenark Renfrew, in England, Continental Europe and Italy, being wounded Sept. 4, 1944 in Italy.  He received the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal.  He was a member of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Wood Point Baptist Church.  Laurie was employed with Atlantic Wholesalers for 18 years, then went on to work part time at Mount Allison University, and at Jones Funeral Home.

He is sadly missed by his wife Irene of Sackville, formerly Woodpoint; a son Ronald (Janet) Smith, Riverview, NB; grandchildren, Justin (Angela), Shawn, Craig (Jennifer); a great grandson Sawyer, great granddaughters Katie and Peyton; several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna in 2008, granddaughter Aimee; and brothers, Leaman, Lewis, Leslie (Violet), Leonard (Vivian) and Russell (Anna).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm.  The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11 am, Pastor Danny Jack officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery.
