Leona Minnie (Hicks) Fullerton
passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Drew Nursing
Home in Sackville, NB at the age of 94.
She was a veteran of WW2 with CWAC, serving in England.Leona is
survived by her son Dr. Gordon Fullerton (Michelle Amiro) and a
granddaughter, Samantha Fullerton, all of Halifax, NS. She is also
survived by a sister and twin brother; Doris Carter and Ted Hicks,
both of Sackville, NB and several nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon U.
Fullerton, her parents; Harris Hicks and Sarah (Ibbitson) Hicks and
two sisters; Myrtle Mitton and Marjorie McLeod. She loved her parents
and her siblings (and their children) and she spoke about them
often.
Born in Nova Scotia, her family moved to
Sackville when she was a young child. Leona grew up during the great
depression and this was a defining event in her life. Leona was a
proud veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas in the
Canadian Women’s Army Corps. After the war she
returned home to Sackville where she worked in retail before meeting
her future husband while playing golf at the Sackville Country
Club. She enjoyed the sun and the beach and her fondest
memories were of the summers spent with her family in Upper Cape, NB.
Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she was happy
pretending to serve tea with her little granddaughter.
There will be a private internment ceremony at a
later date. In lieu of flowers or donations to a charity, please feed
some birds. She loved feeding and watching them.
The family would like to thank the staff and
physicians at the Drew Nursing Home and for their attentive care
during her final years of life.
