Clayton Avard Ripley passed away
suddenly at his home in Sackville on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the
age of 95. Born in Amherst on August 31, 1919, Clayton was a
son of the late Charles and Minnie (Perry) Ripley.
Clayton was a veteran of World War II, RCAF serving from 1941 to
1945, trained for Air Sea Rescue, and was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion, Amherst. He worked with the Postal
Department in Amherst for 30 years. He enjoyed dancing and
was a member of the Tantramar Twirlers Square and Round Dancing.
Clayton was an avid and competitive
card player. He loved the outdoors, having enjoyed growing
vegetables in his garden and, in his younger years fishing.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Hilda (Briggs)
Sloan-Ripley; his daughters, Norma (Jim) Fage, Keswick, NB, Joyce
(Ron) Lynch, Scotsburn, NS, and Charlene (Derek) Wakefield, Grand
Manan; Hilda's sons, Bill (Kendra) Sloan, Moncton, Eric (Debbie)
Sloan, Murray Corner; grandchildren Paul, Jamie, Jonathan,
Christopher, Andrew, Patrick and Christine; step-grandchildren, Craig,
Dustin, Shannon, Erin, Laura, and Patrick; several great
grandchildren; half-brother Winston (Joan) Brookdale; sister, Evelyn
Smith, Amherst; half-sisters, June, Whitby, ON and Shirley (Owen)
Nelson, Brookdale, NS; step-daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sloan (Cyril),
Amherst.
Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by his first wife Lillian (Skerry), four brothers,
Raymond, Lawrence, Garfield and Russell; sisters, Jean and Muriel, a
grandson Michael Wakefield and a step-son Gary and step grandson
Gary.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the
care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB
(364-1300) from where visiting hours will take place on Monday, April
27, 2015 from 12:30 until the time of the funeral at 2 pm.
William Drysdale DLM officiating. Burial will be held in the
spring.
