It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Verna Etta (Etter)
Estabrooks, 85, on Friday, April 10, 2015 at
the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born in Hillaton, NS, Verna
was a daughter of the late Murray and Bessie (Rushton) MacGowan.
Verna was a former employee of Mount Allison
University, with 15 years in the Music Department as a
secretary. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion
Auxiliary, Sackville, as well as the Sackville Seniors. She
was a former member of the Fort Beausejour Chapter IODE. She
was very active in the Sackville Curling Club for many
years. She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church as
well as the ACW.
Verna will be sadly missed by
her daughters: Lorraine (David) Horyl, Sackville and Robin (Brian
Brett) Etter-Cleave, Brisbane, Australia; grandchildren, Adam
(Jamie-Lynn), Noel (Amanda), Vanessa, Jessica and Laura;
great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Nevyn, Lauryn; a sister, Audrey Lee,
Montreal, and a brother, Darrell MacGowan, Saint John, NB.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husbands
Norman W.P. Etter in 1977 and William I. Estabrooks in 1985, as well
as a brother, Dean MacGowan.
Verna's
arrangements have been entrusted into the care and guidance of Jones
Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300).
Honouring Verna's wishes, there is to be no visitation or funeral
service. A private graveside service will be held in the
Sackville Cemetery at a later date.
Donations
in memory of Verna may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion #26, The Canadian Lung Association,
or Sackville Seniors.
