It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Powell Harry Walton, 89, at the Westford Nursing Home on March 18, 2015 surrounded by his family.  Born in Port Elgin he was the son of the late Arthur and Eva Walton.

During his lifetime he was employed at Enterprise Foundry and Eaton's.  He also worked for Leon Johnson Fisheries buying lobsters for many seasons in Annondale, PE, and worked construction in Nova Scotia and Labrador.  Captain Walton owned and operated his own fishing gear for fifty years, retiring at the age of seventy-five.

He was a member of the First United Church, and it's choir, Silver Pioneer's and the East Botsford Bowling League.  He loved to sing, dance, play cards, listen to country music, especially Charlie Pride, and took great pride in his vegetable garden.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Mary (Crawford), a son Brian Arthur; four sisters, Dorothy Field, Helen Therieault, Agnes Shea, Daphne Wall and brother Dyrald.

Powell will be dearly missed by his son, Blair Walton of Bayfield and daughters, Darlene (Paul) Henderson of Oromocto and Kathy (Les) Beal, Dartmouth; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Walton, and special friend and care giver, Joanne Trenholm, as well as grandchildren, Melissa, Rachel, Kristina, Adam, Jared, Kyla, Kelsey, Alex, and Matthew and great grandchildren, Tristen, Aiden, Peyton, and Landon.

A special thank you to the staff of the Westford Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the past 2 1/2 years.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home.  There will be a time of visitation at their Port Elgin location, 3 West Main Street (538-2241) on Saturday from 2-4 pm, with a funeral service at 6 pm.  William Drysdale DLM officiating.

Donations in memory of Powell may be made to Murray Corner United Church, Silver Pioneers Seniors Club or the Westford Nursing Home
