The death of James "Jim" Watson Smart, 88, of Baie
Verte, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, March
13, 2015. Born in Scotland, Jim was a son of the late Mathis
and Annie (Kerpatrick) Smart.
Jim had worked as
a welder at Robb Engineering in Amherst for 36 years. He was
an avid fisherman and hunter. Jim was very well known for
his extensive garden and was proud to feed his family off the
land. He loved four wheeling, and working with his
tractor. He could usually be found out at the camp or in the
woods. He was a lifetime member of the Port Elgin Masonic
Lodge.
He will be dearly missed by
his six children Jeanette (Fergie Lawson) Fury, Walton's Beach, Ian
(Shirley), Anderson Settlement, Mike, Coburg, Maureen (Lorne) Allen,
Baie Verte, Glenn (Tara), Baie Verte, Shaun (Sheri), Sackville;
seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great
great grandson; special nieces and nephews, Anne, Laurie, Neil, Randy,
Shelley, Vicki and Wanda.
Besides his parents,
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Audrey (Simpson); a sister Annie
Copp, and half brothers Watson, Bob and Jack Steele.
Arrangements are under the guidance and care of Jones
Funeral Home, Port Elgin Chapel, (538-2241). Cremation has
taken place. Honoring Jim's request, there is to be no
visitation. A memorial service will be held, Sunday, March
22, 2015 at 2 pm from St. James United Church, Baie Verte.
Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the
Westford Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
