Duane R. Sears,
age 81, of Westcock, passed
away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital on Tuesday, May 17,
2011.
Born in Sackville, NB, he was
the son of the late Coleman and Isabel (Hicks)
Sears.
The family moved to Midgic, NB
until 1939 at which time move back to
Sackville.
Duane was employed at
Jackson’s Metal Industries, Hamilton, ON in 1948 and joined
the Royal Canadian Air Force in
1951.
Duane was a 25 year veteran of
the RCAF having retired in 1975, Foreman and Chief Inspector at
Enterprise Foundry and lastly at Westmorland Laboratories. He was a
member of Branch # 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion and a former
Warrant Officer with the
8th Canadian Hussars and Squadron
Sargeant Major. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. He was
an Amateur Radio operator which he used to help on EMO exercises in
Dorchester, Sackville and Amherst. Duane was also a Westcumb Amateur
Radio Club member. Duane held a life membership in the Warrant and
Sargeants Mess of the R.C.A.F. and a life membership with the
8th Canadian Hussars
Association.
In his early years Duane was
involved in youth baseball, hockey and Boy Scouts in Canada and the
United States.
Sadly missed by 3 sons, Bruce (Linda), Amherst,
Phillip (Jeanne d'Arc Chavarie), Westcock and Mark
(Kimberley) of Miramichi; 14 grandchildren, James, Eric, Nicole,
Christopher, Candice, Matthew, Michael, Brandon, Amity, Benjamin,
Patrick, Craig, Travis and Krista; two great grandsons, Jacob and
Cohen; a sister, Gwen Crossman, Sackville; 2 brothers, Chum (Betty)
Sears, Sackville and Carson Sears, Cambridge, ON; nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Ward) in
2004 and a son Edward in 1978; and by brothers Ron and
Eyrol.
Duane's remains have been
cremated under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70
Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) from where visitation will be held
2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011. A memorial service
will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11
am. Burial to follow in the Westcock
Cemetery.
