It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eileen Phyllis Gertrude Johnstone, age 92, of Sackville, NB. She died peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
Eileen, the daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Belden) Scott, was born in Baie Verte, NB, the second youngest of 10 children. She spent some time in the Canadian Woman’s Army Corps before she married George, her husband of 58 years. Together they raised 6 boys in Sackville, NB. Eileen was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church and having a passion for missions, she often hosted missionaries in her home. She was a gracious servant who loved her Lord and Saviour with faith being prominent in her daily living. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. Eileen loved to do puzzles and play games with her family and friends. She loved her cup of tea and was always ready to welcome you into her home for a visit.
Eileen will be greatly missed by her sons, Douglas, Sackville, NB, Brian (Marlene), Salisbury, NB, Paul (Faye), Abbotsford, BC, and Stephen, Sackville, NB; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; daughter-in-laws, Starr (Johnstone) Parker, Moncton, NB and Debbie Johnstone, Sackville, N.B., sisters-in-law, Lillian Johnstone, of Abbotsford, BC, Edith Scott, of Sackville, NB, and Carolyn Scott, of Moncton, NB, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband George in 2004; sons Bill in 2001 and Don in 2013. As the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her siblings, Dora (Munson), Emma (Ogden), Joe, Ralph, Burris, Carrie, Vaughn, Evelyn and James.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, (506-364-1300), where visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm. Eileen's funeral service will be on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 1 pm, with Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery.
Eileen’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Drew Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received while there.
