It is with sadness the family announces
the death of Mildred Peacock, age 86, of
Fredericton, NB and formerly of Murray Corner, NB. Mildred
passed away peacefully on May 22, 2019 with her loving family by her
side at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in
Fredericton.
Born in Chatham, NB on March 25, 1933,
Mildred was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Young)
Walsh. Mildred was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon
Sharpe in 1970 and by her second husband, Joe Peacock in
2008.
After graduating from New Brunswick
Teachers’ College in 1951, Mildred immediately began her
teaching career in Murray Corner, NB at the young age of 18.
Mildred lived in Murray Corner for most of her
life. During her final years, she moved to Fredericton to be
closer to her family.
After retiring from teaching, Mildred
enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, painting, crossword puzzles,
bowling, writing poetry, square dancing and playing cards.
She was a beautiful cook, and her kitchen was often filled with the
smells of fresh rolls and homemade cookies. She loved to
entertain and host dinner parties, and it always brought Mom great
pleasure to be surrounded by the love and joy of family and
friends.
Mildred was a loving and devoted wife,
mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and special friend to
many. Mildred was very active in her community.
She was a member of United Church Women, NB Women’s
Institute, Silver Pioneers Seniors Club and First United Church,
Murray Corner where she was also a former Sunday School Superintendent
and teacher.
Mildred is survived by her children,
Janet (Lloyd) MacKenzie of Murray Corner, NB; David (Kathy) Sharpe of
Saint John, NB; Jeffrey (Julie) Sharpe of Fredericton, NB;
and Patricia (Robin) Peacock Briggs of Fredericton, NB.
Fond and loving memories of Gram will also be cherished by her special
grandchildren, Jennifer Barisitz, Jerri McCallum, Lana MacKenzie,
Amanda Cooney, Beth Sharpe, Andrew Sharpe, Claire Sharpe, Spencer
Briggs and Ross Briggs. She will also be remembered by her beautiful
great grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Sarah, Rowan, Lilith,
Freyja, Harvey and Darcie. Affectionately known as Dee Dee
by her siblings, Mildred is also survived by a sister Florence Allen
of Baie Verte, NB; a brother David (Sharon) Walsh of Miramichi;
sisters-in-law Mae (late Byron) Walsh, Roberta (late Glen) Walsh, all
of Miramichi; and many nieces and nephews.
Mildred was predeceased by two sisters,
Ellen Quann and Verna Walsh and by four brothers, Charles, William,
Byron and Glen Walsh.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port
Elgin. Visitation will be held at Jones' in Port
Elgin, NB on Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mildred's
funeral service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 1 pm, from the
First United Church, Murray Corner, NB, with Rev. Catherine
Smith officiating. Internment will follow in the Fernwood
Cemetery, Port Elgin, NB.
Donations may be made in
Mildred’s memory to First United Church, Murray Corner, or
Trinity United Church Port Elgin.
