Nova Pauline Atkinson (nee Brenton) died April 19, 2019 at the age of 94 years. 

Shewas born August 25, 1924 in River Hebert, N.S. to Murdock and Pearl (nee Keith) Brenton. 

She graduated from Port Elgin High School in 1942 and spent the next five years teaching in Johnson’s Mills, Rockport and Westcock, N.B. She later worked in the General Office of Eaton’s in Moncton and in 1949 married Joseph Austin Atkinson and they lived in Sackville, N.B.

In 1968, Pauline received her Teacher’s Licence, replacing her original war time credentials. She then proceeded to upgrade her certification through Mount Allison University. She taught at Central School, Salem School, and Marshview Middle School, as well as serving as Principal of Middle Sackville School from 1968 to 1974. Pauline retired in 1984 and devoted her time to extensive traveling and a variety of volunteer endeavours.

Pauline was a member of the Sackville Golf Club, Past President of the former Ladies’ Curling Club, and Past President and Lifetime member of the Hospital Auxiliary. In 1998, she was recognized for her volunteer work and was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by the N.B. Branch of the United Nations Association of Canada. She was a member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and the A.M.S. In 2010, Pauline was awarded a Life Membership to the Canadian Association of Health Care Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (David Weintraub) of Bedford, N.S.; her son, Logan of Toronto, Ontario; granddaughter Catherine (Vaughn) Hoskins of St. John’s, Newfoundland; granddaughter Emily (Jordan) Nash of Kemptville, Ontario; granddaughter Aynsley Atkinson of Ottawa, Ontario; and great grandchildren Lauren and Ethan Hoskins of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and Connor Nash of Kemptville, Ontario, as well as her sister-in-law Barbara Brenton of Chilliwack, B.C, her brother-in-law Les Girard of Orillia, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline was predeceased by her husband of sixty-one years, Joseph, sisters Monica, Phyllis, Irene, and June and her brothers Gerald and Vaughn.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300), where visitation will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm.  Pauline's funeral service will be held at Jones Funeral Home on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2 pm, Rev. Jeff Murray officiating.  Pauline will be laid to rest in the Westcock Cemetery beside her husband Joseph.

Donations in memory of Pauline may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Westcock Cemetery, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. No flowers by request.
