It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful
passing of Adriana Wilhelmina "Mien" (nee van
Gaans) Rommens, age 82, of Riverview, formerly of
Melrose, NB. Mien passed away at home on Saturday, October
22, 2016.
Born in Roosendaal, Holland, she
was a daughter of the late Dominicus and Johanna (Sebregts) van
Gaans.
She immigrated to Canada in 1956,
settling in Melrose three years later. She was a long time
member of the St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church. She
was an excellent seamstress and was the best bread maker and soup cook
around. She loved gardening and was especially fond of her
gladiolas. After a hard day’s work, she loved to
play and win at cards. Her favourite role was being an Oma
to everyone.
She will be dearly missed by her
husband Antonius "Tony" Rommens, Riverview; children, Con
(Rose) Rommens, Melrose, NB. Johanna Rommens, Toronto, ON, Mary (Bob)
Sanderson, Riverview, NB, Annette (David) Burridge, Fort St. John, BC,
Anthony Rommens, Oakville, ON, and Melissa (Adrian) Desbarats,
Emyvale, PE; and; 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; siblings
Kees, Ad, Willem, Jan, and Els; several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters; Anneke, Rieka and
Cor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral
Home. Visiting hours will take place at the Jones Funeral
Centre, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (506-538-2241) on Tuesday from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be at St.
Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, Melrose, on Wednesday, October
26, 2016 at 11 am, Father Charles Broderick officiating.
Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
Those wishing to make a donation in Mien's memory may do so to Chalice
(Canada), St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, or a charity of
their choice.
