It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late
Cecil Jobe Hicks announce his passing on
Saturday September 10, 2016, just 3 months short of his 90th
birthday. We are deeply saddened by our loss, yet greatly
relieved that his suffering is over and he is finally at
peace. He was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Cecil was born 1926, in
Midgic NB, to the late Hedley H. Hicks and Ida A. (Fillmore)
Hicks. The youngest of 8 children, he spent his first 10
years in the family home in Midgic, until they relocated to Upper
Sackville, where he was to spend the next 38 years of his life.
He wore many hats over his lifetime
- farmer, carpenter, carpenter instructor with Corrections
Canada, school bus driver, golfer, curler, woodsman, vacation
traveler, and retired gentleman with the Tilley
hat. He always loved people and acquired a long
list of lifetime friends from many walks of life, who responded
readily to his friendly open nature, easy smile, and quick wit.
In addition to his wife Vivien C
(Hay) Hicks, Cecil is survived by his 4 children, Sharon Hicks of
Sackville, James Hicks of Victoria BC, Sylvia Morice of Sackville, and
Leslie Hicks (Faye) of Sackville; 11 grandchildren, Meredith
(Murray) Campbell-Jess, Heather (Fyffe) Dunham, Melissa Murray,
Michael Murray, Iain Fyffe, Graham Fyffe, Shane Morice, Nicala Hicks,
Erin Morice, Natasha Sadoway, and Micah Hicks; and and 13
great-grandchildren, Stacey, Jordan, David, Sacchi, Abby, Maya,
Madison, Ella, Caleb, Maria, Caileigh, Evvie, and Logan; one
great-great grandchild Leah.
He is also survived by 4 step-children, Dr. Keith
Hay (Susan) of Haliburton ON, Heather Hay (Bill Piggott) of
Vancouver BC, Ron Hay (Hilaire St Pierre) of Toronto ON, and
Nancy Hay of Vancouver BC; 3 step-grandchildren, Lindsay Hay
(Nuni Müller), Sandy Hay, and Mari Piggott, as well
as 2 step-great-grandchildren, Shasta and Sebastian.
He will also be sadly missed by a
sister-in-law Edith Hicks of Miramichi, a great many nieces and
nephews, former daughters-in-law Vicki Andersen and Susan Sadoway,
former son-in-law Les Fyffe, many special lifelong family friends, as
well as numerous friends from the curling club, golf club, bridge
clubs, and Hicks Beach.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant
sister Mona, as well as brothers Kenneth, Howard, and
Guptill; and sisters Sylvia Valade, Hilda Brooks, and
Glenara Anderson. He was also predeceased by
sons-in-law Gary Morice and Robin MacNeill, several nephews and
nieces, and by his former wife Constance MacNeill.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, (506-364-1300) where
visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm. A
funeral service for Cecil will be held at Jones Funeral Home on

The family would like to extend our
heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ross Thomas, to the
wonderful Extra Mural team, and to Melissa from Kindred Care homecare
service, for the dedication and loving support they provided for Cecil
in his final days and weeks.
Cecil's wish was for donations to be made to either the St.
Andrews Presbyterian church elevator fund (Sackville),
Tantramar radio station CFTA (Amherst), or the SPCA /CARMA.
