It is with sadness that we announce the
passing of Margaret Pauline Gray at the
Drew Nursing Home on April 19, 2016 with family at her side. She was
the beloved wife of the late Air Commodore John Gray.
Born in Sackville in 1916, she was the
only child of Del (Babcock) and Alfred Grey.
She attended school in Sackville and
completed her formal education at Mount Allison Ladies College
(’35) and Horton Academy of Acadia University
(’36). Upon graduation, she worked as a legal secretary in
Toronto and subsequently, moved to Windsor, Ontario where she was
married on October 23, 1940. As the wife of a RCAF officer, she and
her husband experienced many moves across Canada from Whitehorse,
Yukon to Goose Bay, Labrador during and after WWII. Upon his
retirement, they settled in Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1985 and spent
many enjoyable winters in their Florida home. Margaret loved music;
especially, playing the piano whether for her own enjoyment or at
social gatherings or for servicemen at various RCAF bases. While
stationed in Ottawa, she worked with the CNIB transcribing written
material into Braille for high school
students.
In addition to her husband, Margaret was
predeceased by her daughter-in-law Elaine (Connery) Gray and
"special aunt" Grace (Babcock) Estabrooks. She is
survived by her son, Robert (Bob); granddaughters Catherine (Derrick
Acton) of Sackville; Kristi (Neal Welling) of Shediac Cape and four
great granddaughters Lindsay & Laine Acton, and Elin &
Carolyn Welling.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted
