Peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Irene Marjorie Estabrooks, 88, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 after a brief illness.  Born in Midgic, Irene was a daughter of the late Richard and Ethel (Maxwell) Hicks.

Irene was a devoted and caring housewife, mother and grandmother.  She was an excellent baker.

She will be sadly missed by three children, Carolyn Smith, Sackville, Marlene Phinney, Sackville, and Fred (Joann) Estabrooks, Miramichi; six grandchildren, Brent (Jennifer) Smith, Byron (Amy Mills) Smith, Ian (Krista Hicks) Phinney, Alison Phinney, Katherine and Emily Estabrooks; and five great grandchildren, Seth Smith, Taylor and Braedon Phinney, Cameron and Nathaniel Smith; a sister Myrna Hick; a niece, Judy Trites and a nephew, Terrence Wheaton.  She was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, a brother, Winslow.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Colburn Estabrooks; a daughter in infancy; brothers, Winslow and Percy; and a sister Ina Wheaton, Sackville

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where the family will welcome visitors on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 2-4 pm.  A funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Monday at 11 am.  Pastor Hal Lowther officiating.

Donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Midgic Cemetery.
