Edward Graham
Smallwood, 73 of Murray Corner, passed away peacefully
after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his
home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Cape Tormentine NB, he was the
son of the late Ernest and Pearl (McGlashing)
Smallwood.
He started his working career on the CN,
QNS&L and CP Railways. Edward owned and operated a
commercial fishing boat for over 50 years and in his later years, he
was a lobster buyer in PEI where he continued to make many new friends
and share old stories.
He is survived by his wife Pauline
(Murray), two sons Derrick (Shirlee) of Murray Corner and Gordon
(Shirley) of Moncton. One sister Gertrude (Kermath) of Bayfield and
one brother Clifford (Darlene) of Cape Tormentine; five grandchildren
Samantha, Graham (Shelby), Darcy, Ryan and Alex; three great
granddaughters Madison, Isabella and Alexa as well as many nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his infant
daughter Stephanie (1964) and by a special nephew Dustin
(2010).
Edward loved his family tremendously and
would always do anything he could to help them. He enjoyed making
memories with family and many friends at the camp, playing cards,
hunting, triking, snowmobiling. He also loved bowling and spent much
time building in his workshop, building a lap-streak boat and leaving
many cherished treasures behind.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port Elgin, NB
(506-538-2241) Visiting hours will take place at the First
United Church, Murray Corner on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
pm. A funeral service, celebrating Edward's life, will be
held at the First Untied Church, Murray Corner on Tuesday, March 22,
2016 at 2 pm, William Drysdale, DLM officiating. Burial will
take place in the Fernwood Cemetery at a later
date.
Edward's family wishes to extend special
heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of the Extra Mural Services,
Sackville, especially Mackenzie, Claudine, Melanie, Cynthia, Katie,
Carol, and Dr. Mansfield; to caregivers Mina Murray and
daughter-in-law Shirley for their caring, love, and support as Edward
neared the end of his journey. Also, deepest gratitude to
Bill Drysdale for his visits, group prayers, encouragement, love and
support.
