It is with sadness that we announce the
peaceful passing of Lionel Charles
Halfkenny, age 83, of Port Elgin, NB, formerly of
Amherst, NS. Lionel passed away on Tuesday, December 22,
2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Dorchester, NB, he was a son of
the late Calvin and Alma (Martin) Halfkenny.
Lionel was a proud decorated veteran of
the Korean War. He was an employee for the Town of Amherst
for many years. Lionel took great pride in his personal
gardens around his home, as well as the flower beds he cared for as a
town employee.
He will be sadly missed by his step
daughters Mary Jo Murray, Baie Verte, NB and Melanie Murray, Comox
Valley, BC; grandchildren, Alexis, Teegan, Olin, Casey, Jamieson,
Adelaide, Charlie, and Carly; son Perry; daughters Vonnie and Angie;
several grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Princess), Toronto, David
(Dorothy), London, ON; sister Theresa Halfkenny,
Amherst
He was predeceased by his wife the
former Marilyn Trenholm Murray, one daughter, Tammy Silvea, sisters
Erma, Florence, Grace and Kay; brothers Claude, and
George.
Arrangements have been entrusted to
Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., (902-667-8777) where a
Legion Service will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 2 pm,
followed by his funeral service at 3 pm, Rev. Donnie Miller
officiating. Burial will take place in the Fernwood
Cemetery.
